A Guide to Your Ideal Backyard Garden Shed

A Guide to Your Ideal Backyard Garden Shed

If you are someone who spends even a moderate amount of time gardening in their backyard, you most likely have (or need) a place for all of your gardening materials. Why not create the space for them with an attractive garden shed that fits in well with your landscaping?

There are many different options for building and designing your own garden shed, and we are here to provide you with a few tips and tricks to help you along the way.

Stay Organized

You may have come across sheds in the past that were chock full of tools, plants, pots, lawn mowers, and other materials until they were stuffed to the brim. While this does count as finding space for your stuff, you may want to consider a more organized approach.

Have enough shelving for all of your smaller belongings like ceramic pots, small garden tools, and anything else you may want to keep in there. Try and keep the different objects in separate areas or even on their own shelves to make it easier to find everything when you need it. If you are unsure of the type of shelving and/or drawers that will work best, here are some fantastic and simple DIY options.

Another great organization idea is hanging out hooks along the walls without shelving to hang shovels, rakes, trowels, and other long tools that may be inconvenient elsewhere.

Depending on how much stuff you want to fit into the shed, you may need more options than others, but as long as your shed can physically fit everything inside of it, organizing it is possible.

Create Stations

If you are planning on potting plants or doing other chores in the shed for your gardening and landscaping, have a station inside to complete those tasks.

This means a clear counter space or desk that is kept open and empty for whatever you need it for. It will make it much easier for you to motivate yourself to do that particular job if you don’t have to clean off a whole area to do it.

For those of you that are a little short on space when it comes to your garden shed, consider keeping a table that is foldable in there, or even creating a rollout desk under the counter space.

Design the Outside

While organizing the inside of the shed is important, don’t forget the exterior either.

Having a shed that is painted a bright solid color, with features like window shutters, hanginging plants or vines, and any other decorative aspect you may want will make it fit in a lot better with your home, garden, and landscaping.

Customize as Much as You Want

Don’t worry about being too traditional when it comes to your garden shed. Everyone has different taste, and your organizational needs are going to vary from other people’s.

For both the inside and outside of the shed, you will want a space that both looks great and is practical and useful.

Having everything in a specific place will make it easier for you to garden, find items that you need throughout the day, and won’t be an eyesore on your property.
