Top Outdoor Christmas Decoration Ideas for Your Landscaping

The holiday season is upon us, and a lot of us really enjoy making our landscaping merry and bright along with our homes.

Here are some of our favorite ideas for decorating your landscaping this Christmas season.

1. Use Greenery to Your Advantage

Whether you make it yourself or purchase your decorations, using greenery for garlands and wreaths is a gorgeous way to spruce up your front door, lamp posts, trees, fences, etc.

If you are planning to make your own wreath or garland, we have a few tips for you.

To get started, you will need some work gloves to keep your hands clean, some floral wire, craft glue, and of course, some greenery. Using wire for your wreaths makes them strong enough to hold up even the heaviest materials and plant life. You can use a single wire frame for a small, more delicate wreath, and a thicker wreath can use a double wire frame.

Once you have your materials ready, simply lay down a small bundle of the greenery and wrap the wire tightly around the stems of them three separate times. After this, add another bundle, and make sure it is half overlapping the previous bundle. Continue adding bundles and wrapping wire around the stems until you reach the starting point.

Then tuck the wire underneath, secure it with a knot, and cut it. Or you can form the end of the wire into a loop and twist it around itself to make a hanger for your door or other area.

At this point you can add berries/fruit, ribbons, lights, bows, etc. The sky’s the limit on what you can accessorize them with.

2. Cover Your Trees With Lights (Safely)

If you have outdoor trees that you want to decorate, covering them with lights is a great option. You do want to make sure that this is done safely though. Here are some of our top tips from our sister company Arborist Now’s blog on the subject.

Make sure that you choose lights that are made for the outdoors. This will ensure that you don’t experience any outages or fire hazards. Also ensure that you have a ladder and other safety features when actually putting up the lights.

Try to make sure that you don’t wrap the lights too tightly around the trees either. This could actually stunt their growth and cause warping.

You can wrap your entire tree with lights, wrap them around parts of the tree, or dangle them from the branches.

3. Use Lanterns to Light Your Porch and Walkways

Last but not least, you can use outdoor lanterns to safely light up your stairways, porches, and walkways for a magical winter landscape.

First, you will want to choose a suitable outdoor candle lantern. There are many, many different options, just make sure you pick one that goes well with your landscaping and is well made to handle any weather. You can get ones made of wood, some are glass and metal, etc.

Make sure that the glass panes are sturdy and can withstand cold and heat. This will stop any cracking or damage from the weather or the inside flame.

If you are worried about actual flames, you can always use electronic candles as well.

These are the perfect decor for around a porch for a gathering, along a front stoop or porch for the aesthetic, or to line stairs and walkways for safety.
